The Kabale School of Comprehensive Nursing said an emotional farewell to its Principal, Josephine Nambilo Mukasa, who has been a motherly figure and dedicated leader for the past seven years. The farewell event, held on Wednesday at the Doctors’ Mess in Kabale Municipality, marked the end of her tenure before she transfers to Mulago School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Staff, students, and members of the local community spoke fondly of Principal Mukasa, describing her as a nurturing figure who not only uplifted the spiritual and personal lives of many, but also contributed significantly to the growth and success of the school. Under her leadership, the institution has seen an increase in student enrollment,  the school being the only  government  nursing training canter for the entire Kigezi region.

Tutors decorated Mukasa’s role in spearheading key development initiatives, including the innovative “Zero Cow Grazing” project, which she launched during the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as a small-scale project has grown into a thriving venture that has further contributed to the school’s development and sustainability.

With an increase in student numbers, Principal Mukasa also advocated for the construction of new facilities to accommodate the growing student body and create a more conducive learning environment.

Dr. Philbert Nyeko, the Director of Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, praised Mukasa’s efforts in fostering strong ties between the nursing school and the hospital. He noted that the partnership provided nursing students with hands-on experience, allowing them to acquire practical skills that have made them highly competent in their field.

In her farewell speech, Principal Mukasa expressed gratitude for the support she had received throughout her tenure. She thanked the school staff, the community, and the hospital for their collaboration in advancing the institution’s development. Mukasa assured everyone that while she was leaving physically, she would remain spiritually connected to the school and its people, vowing to continue supporting the institution in her new role.

“I will always pray for you all,” she said. “Though we part ways, I will forever consider Kabale my home.”

Fr. Alexander Muhumuza of Christ the King Catholic Church, who also attended the event, commended Principal Mukasa for her strong spiritual leadership. He emphasized that her faith-driven service had been a model for all, urging others to follow her example of putting God first in their lives.
